Autism Evaluations

Virtual Autism Evaluations for Clarity, Diagnosis, and Access to Care

At Blue Ridge Mental Health, our Autism Evaluation Program is designed to help individuals and families gain clear, accurate answers. Many people come to us after noticing patterns that have not been fully explained, or after years of feeling uncertain about whether autism may be part of the picture.

Seeking an evaluation is often not just about getting a diagnosis. It is about understanding how someone thinks, processes, and experiences the world, and using that understanding to access the right kind of support. Through a fully virtual model, we provide comprehensive autism evaluations that are thoughtful, structured, and focused on giving you both clarity and direction.

When to Consider an Autism Evaluation

It is not always obvious when an evaluation is needed. In many cases, individuals or families begin to notice differences in communication, behavior, or emotional regulation that do not fully align with other diagnoses or explanations.

You may consider an autism evaluation if you or your child are experiencing:

  • Ongoing social or communication challenges
  • Difficulty with transitions, routines, or changes in environment
  • Sensory sensitivities or heightened responses to stimuli
  • Patterns of behavior that feel repetitive or rigid
  • Previous diagnoses that do not fully explain current experiences
For some individuals, these patterns have been present for years without a clear understanding of what they mean. An evaluation can help bring clarity to those experiences and provide a more accurate framework moving forward.

A Comprehensive and Structured Evaluation Process

Our Autism Evaluation Program is designed to be thorough, supportive, and easy to navigate. We begin with a detailed clinical assessment that explores developmental history, current concerns, behavioral patterns, and overall functioning.

Because autism can present in a wide range of ways, our providers take a careful and individualized approach to each evaluation. We are not looking for a single checklist of symptoms, but rather a deeper understanding of how traits and patterns come together for each person.

At the end of the process, you will receive clear feedback, including whether diagnostic criteria are met and what that means for next steps. Our goal is to ensure that you leave with answers that feel both accurate and actionable.

Why an Autism Diagnosis Matters

For many individuals and families, receiving a formal autism diagnosis can be a turning point. It provides language and understanding for experiences that may have felt confusing or misunderstood for a long time.

A diagnosis can also open access to important services. In many cases, therapies such as applied behavior analysis are covered by insurance only after a formal diagnosis has been established. This makes the evaluation process an important step in accessing ongoing care and support.

Beyond services, a diagnosis can help guide decisions around education, daily structure, and long term planning. It allows individuals and families to move forward with greater confidence and clarity.

Answers. Clarity. A Path Forward.

Out of Pocket Evaluations Designed to Create Access

Autism evaluations at Blue Ridge Mental Health are offered as an out-of-pocket service for individuals age 2 and up. This allows us to provide a more comprehensive and flexible assessment process without the limitations that can come with insurance based evaluations.

While the evaluation itself is not billed through insurance, it is often the step that allows individuals to access services that are covered. This includes therapies and supports that require a formal diagnosis for eligibility.

Our team is transparent about the process and will help you understand what to expect, both clinically and financially, before getting started.

Fully Virtual Care That Removes Barriers

All autism evaluations are conducted virtually, making it easier for individuals and families to access specialized care regardless of location. This model eliminates the need for travel and allows for greater flexibility in scheduling.

Virtual evaluations also create a more comfortable environment for many individuals, allowing them to engage in the process from a familiar setting. This can lead to more accurate observations and a better overall experience.

We serve individuals across multiple states, providing access to care that may not be available locally.
